- India International Center Quarterly
- 52 (3&4), Winter 2025- Summer 2026: p.196-210
This essay has three objectives. First, it offers an outsiders perspective on Urdu. It suggests that some of Urdu’s distinctive features might not be obvious to insiders, who may regard its quirks as inherent and natural. Second it examines the nature of the syncretic and universalist elements within Urdu poetry as they developed during the 18th and 19th centuries. – Reproduced
