This article is an ideal example of the possible enhancement that the government can achieve with the participation of people in the efficient delivery of public services. `Participative Governance' as the article is aptly named, deals with one such success story, wherein a group of volunteers set up a `Free Information Centre' for citizens at the Pune Tahsil Office for providing information on the preparation of several important documents such as Caste and Age Certificates, Annual Income Certificate, Solvency Certificate, Affidavits, etc. This effort thus did away with the abusive system of agents and brokers and brought about transparency in the functioning of the government. The author, Dr. Manjiree Manolkar Singh, Registrar, YASHADA, was the officer who initiated and ran this project with grit and enthusiasm. According to her, Information is the Key to Good Governance. - Reproduced.
