Social security for rural poor: A conceptual framework

In recent years our policy-makers have realised that a mass of rural people cannot be kept aside from welfare goal, which helps rural poor to fulfil their day-to-day needs. In India, since Independence many state governments and union territories have implemented the programmes for the rural poor and others who work in unorganised sectors. At national level the National Social Assistance Programme is a first effort by the Government of India to provide pension to the aged citizens, family relief to those who lost breadwinner and maternity benefit to the rural women who are unable to bear nutritious intake either for themselves or for their infants. - Reproduced.
