The paper traces privatization efforts in Indial, especially in infrastructure sectors. Such privatization would require restructuring of relevznt sectors and privatization of public owned entities, which are still underway. It would also require sound regulatory framework to mimic competition. Although independent regulation was introduced by government way back in 1996 in the infrastructure services such as power telecommunication, and ports, India has a long way to go in establishing the same effectively. A successful privatization strategy would further include various steps such as reform in India's legal system, introduction of competitionlaws, reforms of labour laws, availability of long-term finance and strengthening the civil society. India has undertaken various steps to address these issues, but there are still milestones to cover. - Reproduced
