Various facets and dimensions of participatory development have been examined in this article. It focusses on the experiences in Andhra Pradesh and outlines various schemes and programmes undertaken by the state and non-governmental organisation. The author emphasises that the people for whom developmental programmes are meant should be involved in planning and execution as well. Adequate financial resources and capacity building of the local leadership will make the new experiments work optimally at the grassroots level. - Reproduced.
