The article deals with some specific issues and strategies in the field of water management. It focuses on reducing conveyance and application losses, scheduling of the irrigation; equitable distribution of irrigation water and its conductive use; pricing of water; application of suitable cropping pattern and participatory irrigation management, some of the possible strategies resorted to with a view to minimising the priority problems of farmers include formation of an interdisciplinary team of specialists comprising the agricultural engineers, agronomists, sociologists and economists for proper assessment and implementation of solutions. These solutions need to be tested and demonstrated under actual field conditions for their wider and faster acceptance by the beneficiaries farmers. - Reproduced.
