The article highlights the urgency to address the chronic water problems of a water-starved state like Rajasthan. Based on data from a field survey conducted by the author, the article examines the various approaches that have been adopted for tapping and harnessing water resources in Rajashtan. The article emphasises the need to keep politics out of planning and execution of schemes for the management of Rajasthan's scarce water resources. Mistakes made in the past should serve as important lessons in the design of new schemes. - Reproduced.
