This is done through a study of the Swajal Pariyojana, which is a water-provision scheme conceived by the World Bank for villages in Uttaranchal and Uttar Pradesh. Our findings reveal that the level of water charges and efficiency in their collections are consistent with sustainability, as far as operation and maintenance expenditures are concerned. Willingness-to-pay studies reveal that it may be possible to even recover a significant proportion of the capital costs through water charges. - Reproduced. aWater supply aMitra, Siddhartha aMargin
