<br/><br/> Gender disparity has been a worldwide phenomenon and in view of socio-cultural traditions it has been more pervasive in India. To cure this social ill, there has been a numbe;r of programmes adopted at the governmental level, the DWCRA (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) being the most important one. The evaluation of DWCRA in West Bengal suggests that the Programme promised a lot but due to lack of social support base, political will and administrative commitment, the Programme could provide little for the empowerment of women. - Reproduced.
