<br/><br/> India, which is still a land of villages with more than 700 million people living in the rural areas, still awaits anxiously for the policies and programmes for its upliftment. The present article is an attempt to throw light on the various plans, programmes and strategies for rural development, along with drawbacks in their conception and delivery. And finally it predicts that the efforts to impart dedicated thrust and sincerity in planning and administration can act as a panacea for rural development. - Reproduced.
