From conventional to new services: broadened scope of tertiary sector - 2006 - p.321-35. - Apr-Jun

There are a number of studies pointing towards the faster growth of services vis-a-vis commodity producing sectors in developing as well as developed economies of the world. There is a controversy on relatively faster growth of services on the one hand and classification of services on the other. In this paper the author focuses on the issue as to what constitutes services. The paper also briefly highlights the broadened scope of tertiary sector especially with the emergence of new services and their role in the Indian economy in this era of ICTs driven globalisation. It also points out that the growth of IT/ITES segment of services sector has adverse socio-economic, health and ethical implications. - Reproduced.
