Indian history is replete with plethora of evidence that men have done more for the women than women for themselves. Therefore, it is incongruous to mistrust males just because they belong to the opposite gender. the middle class urban women try to emulate the Western world, without giving any thought to its necessity or relevance in the Indian context. they fail to recognise that India was ahead of most developed countries in granting equal rights and privileges to women in politics. This view has been supported by others who feel that women, in general, have greater distaste for politics as compared to men, which are the reasons for lower turnout of the female voters. the paper concludes that the visionary viewpoint of the male representatives regarding women empowerment through reservation in PRIs.
