<br/><br/> This paper, which is based on the panel data across fourteen major states in India over the time period 1979-80 through 1997-98, examines the industrial performance and assesses its impact on poverty. The changes in poverty incidence over time do not seem to be related to industrial performance across states, indicating that industrial growth has not been pro-poor in the Indian context. However, poverty in level form does respond to industrial performance, which, interpreted from the long-term perspective, suggests that industry-led growth can be pro-poor. - Reproduced.
