The access to higher education needs to be considerably improved if we are to catch up even with the burgeoning demands from various sectors. This calls for huge investment in the higher education, which the government is not in a position to do. Even if the government increases the allocation for higher education, taking the investment in education up to six per cent of the GDP, there will still be a huge gap in the demand and supply of seats in higher educational institutions. to fill this gap, there is a need to encourage the participation of the corporate sector before we think of inviting foreign direct investment in this sector. - Reproduced.
