Constitution of India makes no specific mention of freedom of press. Dr. Ambedkar made it clear that freedom of press is implicit in the right of Freedom of Speech and Expression guaranteed under Article 19 (1) (a). Press and individuals stand on the same footing with regard to the exercise of the Fundamental Rights. press cannot claim higher rights than which are given to an individual. Governments all over the world have made attempts to control or gag the press for publishing articles which are irritant or critical of its action or expose its weaknesses. - Reproduced.
