The 73rd Constitutional Amendment accorded constitutional status to the Gram Sabha. In conformity with the Amendment Gram Swaraj Adhiniyam of M.P. enacted in 2001 that expanded the powers of Gram Sabha. The paper deals with the concept of participatory democracy, and role of Gram Sabha as an institution of people's participation.
