Entry of private sector into the core areas of infrastructure like power and telecommunications have necessitated that appropriate regulatory framework is put in place to avoid unhealthy competition and to ensure reasonable price of services and products to the citizens. With the help of currently available data and some future projections this article attemkpts to gauge the success of regulatory exercise. It examines the level of compliance by the players and effectiveness of directions and guidelines of the regulators. While analysing regulatory authorities endeavours to strike balance between entrepreneur and consumers and level of people's confidence in these matters, the article makes some recommendations for improvement in the regulatory process. The governance in infrastructure sector should at no point lose sight of social angle of development initiatives. - Reproduced.
