The prestige, power and responsibilities of the bureaucracy have undergone sea change since the not too distant a past. As the 21st Century advances there would also be a reappraisal of the tasks that the government would be asked to perform. As such the civil servants, will have to be much more professionally competent, upright, sensitive and action oriented. Besides a conscientious introspection by the civil servants, a multi-pronged reform strategy may save the day and restore the rightful status of this important arm of government. - Reproduced.
