The problems of imposing moral community on diverse urban societies are considered and an argument is advanced for building ethical community. The necessity for a deliberative conversation among members of an ethical community is discussed and some of the current means for conducting it are examined. Following a discussion of the role of experts in these conversations, the implications for academic programs are drawn out.
