Of late corruption in India has assumed pandemic proportions and it has left far reaching undesirable consequences on the economy, polity and the administrative machinery. The institutional inefficiency is reflected in political instability, bureaucratic red-tapism, weak legislative system and weak legislative system and weak and corrupt judiciary. Indians are today sandwiched btween political and bureaucratic corruption. Anti-corruption agencies, which are expected to be key players in combating corruption have become defunct due to political interference, corruption and inordinate delays in finnalisation of their findings. What we need is a strong pollitical will to implement the anti-corruption strategies in which the role of state is redefined with emphasis on removal of state ownership and state discretionanry controls. - Reproduced.
