National e-strategies focusing on modernizing government through e-governance involve the use of ICTs to benefit communities. This article will focus on the e-governance program in India with the Common Service Centres (CSCs) involving broadband-enabled computer kiosks that offer a range of government-to-citizen and business-to customer services, besides promoting sheer access to the Internet to bridge the digital divide. The article also presents a case study of the Akshaya centers in Kerala which is integral to capacity building and advancing digital democracy. These Akshaya centers in Kerala can be a potential model for the rest of India and other developing nations. - Reproduced.
