The findings of the study are consistent with the gravity model of trade theory. However, geographic adjacency seen to have significant inverse association with India's bilateral trade in tea during the 29 years period of study. Beside self sufficiency the restrictive trade policies of neighbouring nations to some extent responsible for sluggish export of Indian tea to the contiguous nations during the reference period. – Reproduced
