In India, the scriptures and ancient laws gave the food a very special status. The concept of equitable distribution of food existed in our society even prior to the concept of socialism. In modern times, securing food to it citizens has become the prime responsibility of state. In the corona pandemic crisis, the intervention of state to provide food security acquires prime significance as people are entitled to have food, especially in crisis situation. As such the present paper examines the implementation of food security law through various schemes to the people in crisis in the state of Assam. These schemes seem to be inadequate. Hence the author suggests to extend powers to states in matters of assuring food security in crisis periods. – Reproduced
