The primary agricultural credit societies were the first statutory Institutional structures to meet the requirements of funding the seasonal crop production operations of farmers with small means in the villages. In the course of further evolution of the Institutional support for these purposes, the distinct central cooperative banks and the Apex state cooperative banks came on the crop production finance landscape, thereby creating the short term coop0eative credit structure (STCCS). The land mortgage banks also emerged in the rural financial space with the objective of financing long term investments for development of land based resources of the farmers and they together came to be known as the long term cooperative credit structure d(LTCCS). - Reproduced
