Social work intervention in the criminal justice system has immense challenges and continues to be an area that demands intervention due to the marginalisation and rights violations of clients within this space. The work is demanding and structured by the law with limited leeway for innovation when working within the institutional setup. The Fair Trial Fellowship began its journey in 2018 with the objective of strengthening the legal aid system in India. This model of intervention visualised a crucial role for social workers working along with lawyers. This paper shares the model, the challenges and learnings from the work. – Reproduced
