Bihar has witnessed a double-digit economic growth since 2005. During these two decades, the state has recorded significant progress on almost every socioeconomic and fiscal outcome. However, Per Capita Income of the state is lowest in the country and one-third of the national PCI. One third of the population are still below the poverty line with a regional economic disparity. Almost half of the population depended on Agriculture for their livelihood. In addition, state is still facing low rank in human development, i.e. health and education, skilling gap, etc., coupled with lack of industry-linked curriculum, low industrial and overall finances. The Credit Deposit Ratio of the state is below the National average. The government of India envisioned the nation as Vikshit Bharat (developed India) by 2047. This goal will not be achieved without making developing states into developed states, especially states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Orisa, etc, who are lagging behind. In this background, the paper quantifies the development path for Bihar as well as India till 2047 in terms of Gross State Domestic Product/Gross Domestic Product. Paper also diagnoses crucial challenges that will come in the way of achieving the goal of becoming Vikshit Bihar by 2047. Further, this paper comes out with several ways forwards through which Bihar could find its space in the row of developed states on the year of centenary of India’s independence. – Reproduced
