520			_aThis article attempts to present a description of the growth and evolution of the local government system in Bangladesh. This country like many other developing countries has followed the recent global trend towards decentralisation of the administrative structure of the central government and to strengthen local institutions at the lower administrative echelons. The bureaucrats like the divisional commissioner,deputy commissioner,sub-divisional officer, UNO and other field officials did not spare enough time towards solving the problems of such local bodies.
