Informal financial groups are formed or structured on the basis of gender, saving style and/or peers. Their operations are characterised by voluntary membership, organisational autonomy and group consensus. The management is collective, with selected or elected leaders acting merely on behalf of the group member following group rules and patterns, and enforcing discipline wherever and whenever necessary"
