520 _aThe Sauras are a major tribe of Orissa of Proto-australoid stock. Lunjia (primitive), Suddha (Hinduised) and Christian are three sections of the Saura. Originally the Saura practiced hunting and gathering. Due to the acceptance of secondary and tertiary sector jobs the economic activities of the Saura have been under-going a change. The total population of the ten selected Saura villages in 1011. There are more Saura males than females. The proportions of child population, the economically active population and aged population among the Saura are 32.6%, 63.8% and 3.5% respectively. The dependency ratio is 0.56. No marriage takes place below 15 years of age. The average age at first marriage for males is 22.6 and for females 18.5 years. Maximum number of females marry between 15-19 years of age and males between 20-24 years. The average duration of marriage is 16.7 years and on the average 3.3 children are born in this period. - Reproduced
