520 _aTo empirically assess morale of employees in a public sector unit in India enjoying sound financial position, the author has chosen a profit-making unit engaged in multifarious activities based on lignite mining. The study covers a sample of 500 (of the total 23,080) employees comprising three cadres, drawn from its five contituent units located at its headquarters and structured it in grade-wise categories. To analyse their responses against four significant behavioural dimensions reflecting on employees' morale, the author uses existing standard scales of measurement and statistical tools, to arrive at his interesting conclusions on employees' morale and their relationship with critical factors, like employees' age, sex, income, experience and educational qualification. - Reproduced
