| 520 | _aRegional imbalances in the Indian context have a colonial origin but their continuation even after the implementation of eight five year plans reflects the shortcoming of the economic planning. In this context, this paper attempts to address the problem of regional imbalances and analyses its extent and reasons. It highlights the efforts taken by the Planning and Finance Commissions in this regard. It also cautions the need to take proper measures to reduce regional imbalances in the current context liberalization process.
