520 _aWith the concept of socialist state yielding space to liberalisation, globalisation and free market competition, the public interface of the welfare mechanism is poised for a qualitative change. This article evaluates the options before public managers in determining relationship with employees, customers, stock-holders, creditors, investors and general public at large. It suggests the ethical standards which should be observed both by government and private organisations.
