520 _aIn the process of planning and development, the governments have been conceived and implemented various economic support schemes (ESS) and Self-Employment Schemes (SES) for more than four decades to address income poverty in the country. The basic approach of the strategy of the state is to build productive assets to the poor for improvement of income and livelihood. In spite of the state and individuals own efforts for such a long period in the country, there exist some deficiencies and inadequacies in the process of planning and implementation of the scheme. The stark reality is that the proportion of such people is relatively higher among Scheduled castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) compared to other social groups in the country. The paper is an attempt to examine the issues involved in the process of implementation of ESS and SES and transaction costs in access to the provisions of the benefits, and the status of the contribution of the schemes to improve income and livelihood of STs in Telangana based on primary data.-Reproduced
