This is the essence of the article presented below, which emphasises the importance of human right in today's world. Extremely relevant to our times, the article provides an overall view of the Constitution of South Africa, focusing on laws and legislation dealing with social and economic rights. It takes a close look at the role of the civil servant in serving the people - from the past to the current scenario, and provides food for thought for our own government and civil servants, with lessons to draw towards enhancing their roles as `service providers'. The present article is a transcript of a speech presented recently by the honourable sitting Judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, Justice Zakeria Mohammed Yacoob, at the YASHADA campus. A few words about the author are extremely pertinent here. His honour was struck blind at the tender age of 16 months. Yet, undeterred by this tragedy, he strived hard to fulfil his goals and reached great heights in his career. His achievements indeed stand out and set a shining example for one and all on how will power and determination can make man overcome the greatest handicaps or disabilities. - Reproduced.
