A large proportion of the work force among urban poor is still in the informal sector. It has given a view point that economic indicators such as nature of employment and sources of income should be accorded with the highest priority for poverty reduction. It is clear that the growth in employment opportunities has a strong influence to reduce the extent of urban poverty. It covers the areas such as employment status, category of workers, monthly earnings and determinants of income of urban poor households in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. – Reproduced
