520 _aPrimary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) are the basis of rural short-term cooperative credit structure in India. The purpose of this study is to analyse the performance of Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies in Haryana. The study is based on secondary data collected from various annually published reports of National Federation of State Cooperative Bank and State Cooperative Apex Banks for the years 2002-03 to 2018-19. The findings of the study worked out by using percentage change, compound growth rate and credit-deposit ratio reveal that negative compound growth rate is found in number of PACS while there is a positive compound growth rate in the number of memberships. Positive growth is also found in various indicators namely paid-up share capital, reserves, deposits, borrowings and working capital. Loans advanced and loans outstanding also increased in the study period. A high credit-deposit ratio is also found. Mounting overdue are the major issue in the performance of PACS as debt relief schemes announced by the government make borrowers reluctant to timely repay the loan. – Reproduced
