520			_aIndia is the second most populous country in the world, where 39 percent of its population lie in the age bracket of 0-18 years as per Census 2011. The development of child ensures that children do not lose their childhood, because of work, disease, and anguish. For this, the country should safeguard the rights of all children, including those who do not face adverse circumstances. Successful integration of survival, development, protection and participation policies are the core to overall wellbeing of the child. In order to satisfy all these needs, the process of child budgeting was initiated in India in 2008-09. Between 2008-09 and 2019-20, the overall allocation for children has increased at an annual rate of 7.68 percent. The present article tries to understand the pattern of child budgeting in India in the last 11 years. It is crystal clear that investment on children will help the nation to develop in a healthy country with efficient demographic dividend. Thus, the article highlights the allocation pattern to highlight the fluctuations over the period which the policy makers should address to meet the growing needs of a child. – Reproduced
