Indian government has initiated several programmes for educational development of tribals such as Ashram Schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalaya, Ekalavya Model Residential Schools and Vocational Training Centers, Pre-Matric and PostMatric scholarships, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship etc. However, civil society organizations also contributed towards tribal education upliftment both in pre and post independent India.
