520 _aThe burning of fossil fuels for energy production is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, which drive global climate change and pose a severe environmental threat. In India, more than 80% of the country's energy needs are fulfilled by three primary fuels: coal, oil, and solid biomass. According to the International Energy Agency's World Energy Outlook (2021), India's share in global primary energy consumption stands at 6.1%. Despite the heavy reliance on fossil fuels, there is significant potential for transitioning to renewable energy sources if subsidies and the invironmental impacts of fossil fuels are properly addressed within energy policies. The promotion and adoption of renewable technologies—such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power—could accelerate India's shift towards a more sustainable energy landscape. By reducing dependence on conventional fuels, the country could lower carbon emissions and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. Furthermore, policy reforms that encourage investment in green energy infrastructure, advancements in energy storage solutions, and the expansion of smart grids could facilitate the broader integration of renewable technologies. Public awareness and incentives for adopting cleaner energy alternatives would also play a crucial role in reducing reliance on fossil fuels. With strategic interventions and technological innovation, India has the potential to lead in renewable energy adoption, contributing to global efforts in environmental conservation and sustainable development.
