| 520 | _aThe Bharatiya Janata Party’s election propaganda is surveyed with a focus on the election speeches given by Narendra Modi. The empirical finding is that campaign speeches given by the Prime Minister routinely included multiple references to the past. Given that elections are often understood in transactional or material ways, references to abstract historical topics require interpretation. The attention paid to history is consistent with other initiatives to reshape symbolic and ceremonial politics in India since 2014.- Reproduced https://www.epw.in/journal/2024/48/general-elections-2024/place-history-narendra-modis-election-speeches.html | ||
