| 520 | _aEmpirical research of Chinese politics has been deeply influenced by Western social science theories. Studies of bureaucracy and bureaucratic behavior are no exceptions, over which Weberian bureaucracy and fragmented authoritarianism theories have made substantial impacts. Yet in the past two decades, based on in-depth empirical studies, alternative conceptual innovations and theoretical developments such as ‘project-system’ and ‘campaign style governance’ have been developed. Taking these concepts and theories as cases, this article examines how studies of Chinese politics could contribute to general social science theories by discussing the interactions between general theory and context-sensitive mechanisms.- Reproduced https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/02685809251325007 | ||
