| 520 | _aThe societal fabric of Assam in inherently plural and comprises of various ethnic, religious and linguistic communities. Consequently, it has been a hotbed for conflicts concerning group identities and distribution of resources. Identity politics in Assam is a multi- faceted issue which ranges from land ownership, citizenship, immigration to issues of self- determination and secession. Demand for recognition gains momentum among those communities who are historically stigmatised.
