520			_aA study of rural households in Maharashtra sheds light on a critical issue that, while the number of toilets in India has increased, access to toilets does not guarantee its usage. Logistic regression showed that education, occupation, age of household head, and household size significantly impact toilet use. However, religion, caste, gender of household head, and water availability were insignificant. Findings disclose that infrastructure alone does not guarantee use, and cultural and social attitudes act as barriers to using toilets.
