| 520 | _aWetlands are complex ecosystems that are nature’s most efficient climate sequestration technology. We treat these ecosystems as wastelands, and Kanjurmarg in Mumbai is a case in point. A thriving coastal wetland has been locked in a 15-year legal battle to bury it under garbage. Mangroves, in particular, are known to store up to four times more carbon than most terrestrial forests. While governments speak the language of carbon sinks and climate targets, they dump on the very ground that makes these commitments possible.- Reproduced https://www.epw.in/journal/2025/35/commentary/fighting-carbon-sinks.html | ||
