520			_aLiterature attempts to understand the factors affecting food security, and in turn, factors are being affected by the food insecurity that has an impact on countries prosperity. Socio-economic factors such as food prices, income, climate, war, urbanization, infrastructure, R&D, and environment influence food security, as do availability, affordability, quality, safety, and sustainability of food. Food insecurity ultimately hampers the nation's productivity and growth and creates a cycle of poverty. Hence, ‘food security’ can also be a means to achieve nation prosperity. The policies to cope with the situation of food insecurity are only partially effective and limited by availability. It may be apprehended that food security is neither a natural phenomenon nor the product of an unbalanced Malthusian equation. The world has ample food. Food production has been faster than the unprecedented population growth of the past decades. In fact, today’s farmers produce more than enough food and calories for all 7.8 billion people on earth. Yet nearly 10-12 per cent of people don’t have enough food to eat. Food security is a matter for factual investigation in a given situation. The article attempts to analyze the concept of food security and examine the status of food security in the four Indian states, i.e. Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha, and analyze the reasons for food insecurity.
