520 _aThe troubled human–wildlife relationship in the highlands of Kerala is a matter of growing concern due to the constant disruption of the lives and livelihoods of the people who share space with wildlife. Debates surrounding the complexities of human–wildlife conflict often persist, largely due to the divide between the environmentalist perception of conservation and the experiences of farmers confronting wildlife-related threats. This study demonstrates that the precarious social and economic circumstances of the farmers and local communities directly affected by the inter-species conflict undermine the skewed discourse promoting coexistence between humans and wildlife. – Reproduced https://www.epw.in/journal/special-articles/human-wildlife-conflict-kerala.html
