520 _aWe are returning to the question of the Mumbai1 millworkers’ strike of 1982–83 because the consequences of the strike remain a matter of urgency in the present. The purpose of the issue is not to “revisit” the strike for plain historical value, nor is it to romanticise or ossify the past by implying that the political was in the past or that it was the past that was political, and nor is it to memorialise workers or trade union activists and leaders. Rather, our aim is to elucidate the ways in which the strike and its aftermath continue to impact the lives of millworkers and their future generations, even as it shapes the contours of their present struggles. – Reproduced https://www.epw.in/journal/millworkers-strike-1982-83-and-its-aftermath/1982-83-millworkers-strike.html
