520 _aThe characteristics and performance of the unorganised manufacturing enterprises in India are examined using nationally representative unit-level data for 2010–11, 2015–16, and 2023–24. The constraints that these enterprises face and the implications for their performance are also examined. Falling demand stands out as the most severe constraint, followed by finance-related constraints, while labour, power, and raw material challenges are less prominent overall. Therefore, policy design must recognise the heterogeneity within the sector and the varied constraints faced by different groups of entrepreneurs. –Reproduced https://www.epw.in/journal/2026/16/indias-industrial-transformation/unorganised-manufacturing-enterprises-india.html
