520 _aAttempts to seek an understanding of who is an effective communicator in the perception of the receivers of communication. Data was collected from twelve focus groups of senior and middle level managers attending management development programmes at The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Participants were asked to think of someone whom they knew personally and perceived to be an effective communicator and then discuss the characteristics of the perceived effective communicator. The responses were analysed to characterize effective communicators. The perceptions were then conceptually categorized under five factors - characteristics of the message, delivery of the message, behaviour, personally, and skills of the communicator. The implications of these factors for business school curriculum and training programmes in communication are also discussed. - Reproduced.
