| 520 | _aThe principles of governance whether enshined in the ancient Indian treaties or spelt out in modern day Directive Principles of State Policy were around the pivotal theme of all-round welfare of the subjects and citizens. In independent India, the founding fathers of the Constitution were inspired by the Gandhian dictum of `Ramrajya', in which the state took upon itself responsibility of effecting development with such policies that ensure welfare, equity, equality and social well-being. The article gives an overview of the development policies and their results since 1950s.
